Why the Japanese people are not many to be a member of FaceBook??

Why the Japanese people are not many to be a member of FaceBook??

Several times I’ve sent a friend invitation to Japanese students to join in FaceBook (FB). But my invitation is very rarely taken by my friend. There are one or two people who become members, but inactive. Just simply open an account only. A fairly active usually only Japanese students who had many friends of foreign students.

In 2008 Mark Zuckerberg made the Japanese language applications to attract more enthusiasts of FB in Japan. It turned out that hope was not fulfilled. Indeed the majority of Japanese people are not familiar with English-language applications. But when YouTube makes the Japanese-language applications, people flock to Japan to upload videos to there. YouTube relativism is more unpopular than the FB. It turned out that the language is not the main control for the proliferation of FB in Japan.

To become a member of FB, we are required to enter personal data which will be included to those who become our friends. While YouTube just require a name (not need the original name) and email address. This is where the problem. Most Japanese people do not want to show the data and personal life to many people. For example, by showing the date, month and our birth, is believed to be used to find our characters very dangerous when used for bad purposes.

In addition, Japanese people do not really like to emphasize their identity. They used to live in groups and work well in groups. We may be familiar with the Walkman product, but we do not know who the inventor, except from Sony Corpporation. Tamagochi also known that, by his company, the inventor got the same treatment with other employees and is considered as part of the working group.

Japanese people prefer to use another’s identity or not her real name. In 2005 there was a true story about Japanese citizens who chat in an Internet forum. Japanese youth are those who like the comic (manga), gaming, animation and style a bit strange. In Japan people like this are called “otaku”. In a trip on the train, he managed to help a beautiful woman from interference educated drunks. His desire to reach out and love the woman poured out in an Internet forum. In each step to approach the woman, he told the forum. Lots of feedback, advice and support to these youth. This story eventually became popular and made a film, soap operas and comic books with the title “Densha Otoko” (Train Man). Until now, Main Train original identity is unknown.

In addition, there is also a sense of introspection of the Japanese people for not sharing identity, image and personal life. Especially the women. They do not want to be disturbed by idle people who know their identity through FB. There have also been cases when a student who has a blog was visited by the young Americans who want to meet him. The student refused and had been a stir on campus. Since that time there was an appeal on the campus to not open the private lives through blogs.

So much culture affects Japanese people not to surf at random. While in Indonesia, many of which by deliberately distributing mobile phone number, address, PIN numbers and other identifying BlackBerry on their FB. Without realizing it, if somebody is not well-intentioned, these data can very easily be used for evil.
